Tips on Using Garden Netting

Even the most novice gardeners are aware of the nuisance that pests can present. It is important to protect any gardening area from frequent pest invasions, and the simplest and most popular way to do this is by using garden netting. There are many different types of garden netting, and it is used in various garden-protective ways.

Various Uses

Garden netting offers a number of helpful uses, such as training vines, soil erosion and protection from birds.  In addition, netting can be stretched over any body of water in a gardening area to keep leaves from falling in, as well as deter any diving birds from stealing fish.

Measure the Area

To prepare for proper garden netting application, measure the length of the garden plot with a tape measure. Once that length has been noted, be sure to add a good half-foot to each end note that length, as well—this extra room will be necessary for plant growth to occur beneath any netting. Spread out the garden netting on a flat surface and cut it to match the dimensions previously noted. Everyday scissors should work just fine. Cut as many pieces as is necessary to cover the entire gardening area completely.

After Use

It is perfectly fine to store garden netting for future use, regardless of whether or not its future purpose will be the same. As soon as pests leave the gardening area—or after harvest has come to an end—simply roll up the supply of netting and store it with all other gardening supplies for the following year. Further application of garden netting can be appropriate for almost any situation in which an unwanted intruder is involved, regardless of size. Obviously, larger sizes will be necessary for larger pests like deer.

It is very important when using garden netting to keep the quality of the product in mind. Durable netting will not only keep the most pests away for the longest period of time, but it will also withstand harsh weather conditions like wind, heat and rain. This will in turn allow the netting to last for many more seasons past its first use.
