How to Use Jute Mesh for Natural Erosion Control
Jute Erosion Control Mesh is a biodegradable option for erosion control on slopes or runoff areas. Our jute mesh is part of our wide variety of biodegradable and eco-friendly products that we sell to complement your organic garden! Check out our biodegradable anchor stakes and natural burlap fabric too.
Using jute for erosion control
The 100% jute fibers allow water and light to filter through, encouraging vegetation growth. It is flexible and strong when installed, and becomes heavy when wet, contouring to ground contours. This process helps to control erosion with 100% natural fibers.
How to install jute mesh
After clearing debris and weeds from the slope or plain in mind, roll out the mesh to fit the cleared area. Overlap the jute by 6” if using multiple pieces of fabric in an area wider than 4’. Secure the edges of the mesh with BioStakes every 2-3 feet.
Once the Jute Erosion Control Mesh is secured, either seed or plant grasses or other erosion control vegetation through the mesh openings. The mesh will naturally biodegrade within 6 months to 2 years, depending on the microbial action of the soil.
On steeper slopes, dig a 6”-12” deep trench at the top of the cleared area and secure the mesh in the trench using BioStakes.
Benefits of biodegradable products
Like our biodegradable anchor stakes (learn more about BioStakes in this post), the decomposition of the jute fibers encourages worm and microbial activity, in turn, enhancing the nutrient profile of the soil and encouraging nitrogen fixation for healthier soil.
